There is a business that sells "Bonsai Kittens." They claim to produce unique and well-cared-for pets. In reality they inject newborn kittens with chemicals to soften their bones and cram them into a jar. Tubes are snaked into the container to the kittens mouth to provide it with enough nourishment to keep it alive, but not grow strong, and a steady supply of chemicals to turn their bones to rubber, destroy their connective tissue, and atrophy their muscles. Another tube is super glued to their anus to prevent the kittens from drowning in their own feces or creating an "inconvenient" smell or discoloration of fur. They have yet to figure out a method for preventing the kittens from throwing up the chemical mixture and drowning, or from chewing through the tube stuffed down their throat. They are looking at either injecting high doses of muscle-relaxers in the kitty's jaw or ripping out their teeth; their justification for this being that in an ideal world, all pet cats would eat soft food, so what do they need their teeth for anyway? They leave the kittens in the jar to grow for weeks or months until they can break the glass away and have nice, rectangular shaped kittens that cannot move, walk, or even eat on their own. They consider these poor creatures to be works of ART, and therefore protected by the first amendment. These people are so sick and twisted that they believe that not only do the kittens not suffer any pain or trauma from being stuffed into a jar, but that the kitten would actually choose to undergo this torture in order to be "special," as if a kitten would go out and get a nose ring to flout the cat society. It is sickening. One man wants a spherical shaped kitten to put in a ball for his dog to play with; another is looking at club shaped kittens he can light on fire and JUGGLE; and some request opaque containers, so that guests won't have their delicate sensibilities offended by viewing a "work in progress." About the only concern owners write in with is whether feeding a dodecahedral shaped cat triangular shaped food would be a breach of decorum. You would think that with all the Animal Rights organizations, etc. out there, that such a sadistic activity would not be allowed to continue as soon as the government heard of the monstrosity, but no, the FEDERAL GOVERNMENT ISSUES BONSAI KITTEN LICENSES for people to make their own at home!!! This must be stopped. We cannot allow this horrific business to continue. It must be made illegal to torture living creatures in such a bloodlessly cruel way.
