I don't agree with SPAM either -- but at least it's paperless! Let's take a common scenario: you subscribe to a magazine, they add your name and address to a mailing list which they SELL to prospective advertisers (i.e. credit card companies, or whomever), and these solicitors send you their advertisements as Junk Mail. Junk Mail is a common household term. Most of us identify it as Junk Mail, don't even bother opening it up, and simply throw it away -- or, we slightly entertain ourselves by reading its exciting contents, then throw it away. If you consider all the Junk Mail, received on a DAILY basis, sent to ALL the U.S. addresses (and some of the addresses are obsolete -- old addresses, don't live there anymore), it amounts to a lot of wasted paper -- A.K.A a lot of wasted timber. Can you imagine how much unwanted paper is thrown away everyday in the name of Junk Mail? (Trees do not grow overnight.) I never gave the magazine (or whomever) permission to sell my name and address, and because of it, my personal mail is infested by commercial advertising I never asked for. Now some people may like Junk Mail. To each his own -- I'm a firm believer in that. But considering most of Junk Mail is a unwanted, massive waste of a natural resource, why can't we invent a Junk Mail mailing list? If you want to receive Junk Mail, simply request your name and address be added to the "Junk Mail Mailing List", and spare the rest of us the unwanted waste of one of our planet's natural resources -- as well as the Junk Mail itself! Mother Earth can only produce so much at a time -- save her, and save yourself. Thank you for your time.
