On April 16, the US Commission on Civil Rights issued a statement calling for an end to all Native American related symbols and sports related imagery and names by non-native schools and teams. I don't understand how a name such as "Braves" or "Indians" or "Chiefs" could be deemed offensive. The name "Warrior" points out someone who is loyal, brave, and courageous. Yet, Native Americans do not want to be associated with these traits? I can understand how the use of the name "Redskin" and "Savages" would be offensive. I can also understand how the images used sometimes may wrongly portray Native American culture. This kind of usage should be stopped, but not all usage.
