I feel that people have been very close-minded when it comes to Hate Crime legislation in America. Most people believe that hate crime laws will solve everything, and the media blows many of these supposed hate crimes way out of proportion. Its all one-sided, and I would like to discuss the downfall hate crimes laws would lead to: Its a form of reverse discrimination, and allows certain people to have more protection under the law than others. All people are created, therefore all laws should treat them that way. It would give homosexuals more protection under the law than those who are straight, when homosexuality is a chosen behavior and does not deserve special protection under the law. It further segregates our society when we divide everyone in to classes of protection that they have and the sentences they face. Hate crimes would further the gap between races and sexual preference if these hate crime laws become enacted. The following are just a few of the many reasons why hate crimes should not have a place in our legal system. If you agree with what I am saying, please sign this and help others see the problems caused by these laws. Thank you very much.
