I am a student at the University of Toledo and have been reading about Bush's education plan for one of my classes. To me, parts of this plan make no sense. First, the President wants to test all children to establish a national standard. He says that he is going to give each state the right to choose their own tests, but if states have different tests, then how will we know which states are actually doing better and are up to standards? Second, he says that federal money will be taken away from pooorly performing schools. I think that a better plan would be to give money to these schools so that they can improve their education, so all children have an equal opportunity to learn. By taking money away, you are hurting these children, not helping. Thirdly, President Bush says that measuring by testing is the only way to know whether all children are learning. This is certainly not the case because there is information that says that standardized tests are not appropriate and there are other ways to measure children such as portfolios.
