I am a resident of Texas. I am gay. I have to worry about holding hands in public or giving my boyfriend a kiss or some kind of public display of affection and worrying that someone might call the police and have me arrested. I would like to have the luxury of holding my boyfriend's hand in public or if I decide to give him a kiss it shouldn't be against the law to express any decent homosexual act in public without getting arrested. Straight people do it, so why can I not do it myself? Love is not limited to gender. If I want to hold hands or kiss in public it should be viewed as loving and caring in that I too have emotional feelings and just because I am gay does not mean that I don't have feelings!!! Why judge me for who I am on the outside and not for what I can contribute to this harsh society? I have to pay taxes as well as anyone else and I still get the dirty side of the deal just because I am gay. The only way we can achieve this is through awareness and educating the ignorance that so prevails in Texas as well as nation wide. We should be given the chance at the pursuit of happiness and living life as normal as any other citizens. We are law-abiding citizens and hard workers, yet we get the dirty side of every deal. If I vote for certain political figures it is not to make them popular but to help me and others in achieving what the late Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. preached until his death about America becoming one and joining hands to help each other instead of hurting one another. Life is too short to live it worring about who's looking at you or who's watching you. We should live happily and without worry. Education is the key in all this and with the help of other people it would be greatly appreciated that maybe one day I can kiss my boyfriend or hold his hand while we go out for a movie. Please if you feel any compassion for human civil rights sign this petition and help me as well as others in the fight for equality.
