Press Releases | In the News | Media Contact Info Press Release SpeakOut.com/Fox News VP Debate Focus Group: DANVILLE, KY - October 6, 2000 - Republicans who participated in the Fox News Channel/SpeakOut.com "Rate the Debate" program rated Dick Cheney significantly higher than Democrats rated Joe Lieberman, while Independents and other party affiliations tracked closely with Republicans in their ratings of both candidates. The largest scoring gap between Republican and Democratic participants occurred when each vice-presidential candidate discussed their party's tax policy. Very little gap was evident between men and women in their ratings of both candidates, although women rated Lieberman notably higher than Cheney on his answer to the question of women's rights and equal pay. The largest scoring difference between Independents and either party occurred when each candidate addressed the issue of social security policy. The greatest consensus between Republicans and Democrats came in response to each candidates' answers to questions about Milosevic's removal from power and the use of weapons of mass destruction. Approximately 3600 people participated in tonight's online focus group with, approximately 500 people participating consistently throughout the entire debate. A higher number of Republicans participated than Democrats, which is consistent with Internet demographics. The results reflect the average opinion of debate watchers who chose to participate in the online research project. Although the group is not a scientific sample of all American voters, the average results were weighted to reflect the national party identification and gender of all voters.
